Show Notes

According to recommendations by the World Health Organisation, babies should receive their first gulp of breast milk within the first of being born. But what happens when the mother cannot produce milk or if the baby comes prematurely before the mom’s milk has fully developed? What happens when the baby is allergic to formula? Perhaps the next best thing to consider, is a human milk bank.

On today’s edition of #TheSitDownParenting, we are joined by the CEO of Milk Matters (a non-profit human milk bank), Jenny Wright to understand how the process of milk donating works in South Africa.

Biography

Jenny Wright joined Milk Matters in 2005 in order to assist with running Milk Matters, a small but growing and developing non-profit human milk bank. Jenny’s desire to get involved in breastfeeding support was sparked by seeing far too many distressed mothers giving up breastfeeding because of a lack of adequate support and information. Working in the field of milk banking provides the unique opportunity to contribute towards as many babies as possible having access to breastmilk, ideally from their own mother or, if that is not possible, from a breastmilk bank.
